CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team dropped a 3-nil decision to College of Charleston Sunday night at the CCU Soccer Field.
Coastal dropped to a 2-3-1 overall record. Despite the score, the Chanticleers' and the Cougars' were evenly matched with 13 shots apiece. Coastal also had five corner kicks to the Cougars' three.
College of Charleston took an early lead scoring in the 5th minute in the run of play. Sara Deutsch sent the ball into the box from the left flank to find Laura Ortega who put it away for the go ahead.
Minutes later, senior Amber Adams drove the ball through the midfield, blasting one towards the goal but hit the crossbar to bounce out of bounds. Coastal added three more offensive opportunities before giving up its second goal.
The Cougars took a 2-nil lead as Ortega scored her second goal of the day off a cross from Jessica Schifer in the 26th minute.
Continuing its offensive force, the Cougars tacked on its third goal in the 36th minute. Sarah Blakely lofted the ball in from 45 yards out towards Becca Austin but mishandled the ball dropping it in the net.
Play remained even through the second half with the Chanticleers' having the 5-4 shot advantage. Daniella Famili found herself in a good scoring opportunity by the Cougar goaltender was there to make the save.
Coastal picked up the pace as the clock lessened, placing a few more shots on frame but came up short.

The Chanticleers hit the road this weekend traveling to Jacksonville, Florida Sunday, Sept. 11 to take on the Jacksonville Dolphins with the match slated to start at 1 p.m. The match will be streamed on WatchESPN or the ESPN app.
