Feb. 10, 2017 Final Results
Birmingham, Ala. - The Coastal Carolina men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in the Samford Invitational Friday in Birmingham, Ala.
On the women's side...
The women's team finished fourth with 48 points. Carina Frey got the Chants on the board finishing fourth in the 60 meter dash, qualifying with a time of 7.70 before running her best time of 7.66. Karissa Lunn and Kelsey Briggs just missed the finals with times of 7.83 and 7.95 respectively.
Hesmari Coetzee (56.53) and Tiffany Harris (56.61) finished fourth and fifth scoring for the Chanticleers.
Harris (24.93) and Frey (24.94) finished first and second to lead Coastal Carolina in the 200 meter dash.
In the 1600 meter run the Chanticleers A team finished fourth with the time of 3:52.71.
In the field portion, Coastal's long jumper Briggs (5.71m) finished fourth with her third attempt being the best of her jumps.
Emma Kroger (3.80m) had the best Chant finish at fourth in the pole vault to close out the scoring.
On the men's side...
Therius Styles (6.95) finished sixth in the finals of the 60 meter, after qualifying at 6.92. Just missing the finals were Kahlim Denmark (6.95) and Marquez Moore (6.99).
Three Chanticleers finished in the top eight in the 60 meter hurdles, Kevondre Hunter (8.11) was third after having the fastest qualifying time of 7.91. Dee Jennings (8.13) and Keishaun Limehouse (8.16) finished fifth and sixth respectively.
Denmark led five Chants to top 10 finishes in the 200 meter dash, finishing third (21.62). Jerome Coaxum (21.90) placed sixth followed by Styles (21.97), and Terril Stanley (22.05) and ninth place Ryan McCain just missed scoring at 22.07.
In the distance of 1600 meter Coastal's A team finished second in 3:16.95.
Moore led three Chanticleers in the long jump finishing third with his best jump of 7.22m, followed by Brandon Johnson (7.07m) and Deandre Baker (7.05m) in fifth and sixth.
In the triple-jump Baker led the way to a third place finish with a distance of 14.31m and Richard Finch IV placed sixth with his distance of 13.06m.
To close out the meet for Coastal Carolina Zach Bolton threw 15.90m for a fifth place finish.
The Chanticleers will next compete in the Sun Belt Indoor Championship in Birmingham, Ala. at the Birmingham Crossplex Feb. 20 and 21.
