WEST POINT, Miss. – Coastal Carolina's women's golf program finished the opening day of the Magnolia Invitational tied for 10
th after an opening round 306 (+18).
In playing the toughest competition to date this fall, the Chants took on the Old Waverly Golf Club, a par-72, 6,320 yard course. The course is known for its tough play and today was no different as none of the teams participating finished under par.
The Lunackova sisters, Marie and Frantiska, led the Chants efforts on the opening day. Both players shot a four-over 76 with Marie shooting a 38-38 to gain her total score and Frantiska shooting a 39-37. Both players are tied for 38
th.
Tiffany Arafi and
Stephanie Henning had matching 77's. Arafi picked up her five-over score shooting a 39-38 and Henning shot a 40-37. Those two will enter tomorrow's second round tied at 45
th.
Jenjira Jinangkul shot a six-over 78 (39-39) and will enter tomorrow's round tied for 55
th.
Co-host Mississippi State shot an even par 288 which had them tied after day one with Kennesaw State's 288. The other co-host, Ole Miss, is tied with Oklahoma for third place with a one-over 289.
SEC power LSU is fifth with a two-over 290 and another SEC power, Auburn, is seven strokes back of the leaders with a seven-over 295.
Memphis (299), Southern Miss (300) and Ole Miss' second team in the tourney (301) round out seven-through-nine in front of CCU.
The Chants are tied with Kansas State who also carded a 306, while Middle Tennessee State, East Tennessee State and Virginia Tech each shot a 20-over 308.
