San Marcos, Texas – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team fell to Texas State 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in San Marcos, Texas. The loss dropped the Chanticleers' record to 7-7-1 overall and 6-3 in Sun Belt action while the Bobcats improved to 10-5-2 and 8-0-2 in conference action.
The first half ended with the score tied 0-0 and each team feeling each other out while looking for the advantage. The Chants were outshot 9-6 overall but were even in corner kick attempts with three apiece.
CCU's
Hannah Miller (7 shots with 4 on goal),
Lauren Dabner (3 shots with 2 on goal), and
Sunny Sigurvinsdottir (2 shots with 1 on goal) each had a shot on goal in the first period, but were unable to fill the back of the net.
Texas State got on the board in the 64th minute when Kaylee Davis beat a diving Chanticleer goalie for the eventual game-winner and the 1-0 lead. Jordan Kondikoff and Haley Groff each assisted on the scoring play.
Coastal first had a chance on Dabner's strike and followed up with a couple of solid opportunities to get the equalizer when Miller fired two shots on goal but was unable to break the stronghold of the Texas State goalkeeper and defense.
For the match, the Bobcats outshot the Chants 20-16 overall while CCU had a 6-4 advantage in corner attempts.
Coastal Carolina will return to action in Conway at the CCU Soccer Stadium, on Thursday, Oct. 25 to make up the Arkansas State match that was postponed due to the effects of Hurricane Florence. It will be the final regular season match for the Chanticleers. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
