TAMPA, FL - On day two at the NCAA Preliminaries at the University of South Florida, three Chanticleers; Dee Jennings, Kevondre' Hunt and Jerome Coaxum Jr., all competed in hurdles events for a chance move onto the next round of NCAA competition.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Kevondre' Hunt moved onto to the quarterfinals when the senior came in fifth in the second heat, but overall the Warner Robins, Georgia native placed 16th overall with a personal best time of 13.90. Just last week at Sun Belt Championships, Hunt set the previous mark of 13.99. When all six heats were completed, the senior was the third hurdler to qualify based on time.
Also in the 110, Dee Jennings was unable to make it to the quarters as he placed seventh in the fifth heat, 40th overall, and a time of 14.39.
In the quarterfinals of the 400-meter hurdles, Coaxum came up short to move onto nationals as he finished 21st overall. The senior was looking to be one of the top 12 that would move on Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA Championships but his overall time of 51.86 came up short of the 12th overall finisher, Walter Briggs, which finished with a time of 50.95.
On Saturday, Hunt will compete in the quarterfinals of 110-meter hurdles and Aynslee van Graan will be back in action, as the senior will compete in the quarters of the 1500 meters. Both individuals will look to be in the top 12 of their respective events that will advance to Eugene.
