ATHENS, GA. – Less than 12 hours after a long five set loss to begin the season against the Georgia Bulldogs, Coastal Carolina returned to the court to face the Illinois State Redbirds and attempt up to pick up their first victory of the season in Stegeman Coliseium .
This morning, the Chanticleers could not find the win column as they dropped to 0-2 on the season. The match-up versus the the Missouri Valley Conference's preseason third pick deemed to be too tough as the Chants fell by the score of 3-0 (14-25, 16-25, 19-25).
Coastal Carolina held the lead early in each of the first two sets, but it was temporary as Illinois State controlled the three sets throughout the match as they out hit CCU .271 to .071.
Freshman
Anett Nemeth was a bright spot for the Chanticleers as she led the match with 12 kills while hitting .312. Setter
Sara Boothe led the Chants with 21 assists.
No Redbird hitters recorded double-digits kills in the match. Ali Line and Marissa Stockman each had nine putaways to lead their team.
Coastal Carolina will return to action today, at 5:30 p.m. as they wrap up their weekend in Athens when they face the Furman Paladins.
