Coastal Suffers Loss to Little Rock, 60-47

CONWAY - Junior center Naheria Hamilton had 12 points and 14 rebounds to lead Coastal Carolina, but Little Rock received a combined 34 points from guards Kyra Collier and Tori Lasker to lift the Trojans to a 60-47 win over the Chanticleers Thursday evening at the HTC Center.

The loss was the sixth straight for Coastal Carolina, which is now 8-9 overall and 0-6 in the Sun Belt. Little Rock improved to 10-8, 6-1, with its fourth consecutive conference win.

Hamilton's double-double on Thursday was her fifth of the season, as well as her second consecutive and third in Coastal's last four games.

The Chanticleers added 12 points from guard DJ Williams, all in the second half, and 6 points apiece from Caitlin Roche and Aja Blount.

Collier led all scorers with 19 points, including 17 in the first half, while Lasker had 14 of her 15 points in the second half. Forward Ronjannae DeGray finished with 16 points.

Little Rock broke open a close game in the third period, with Lasker scoring 14 points and the Trojans outscoring Coastal 17-6 to close the period for a 52-33 lead. Little Rock stretched its lead to 21 points with 9 minutes remaining before a furious Coastal press brought the Chanticleers back to finish just 13 points down.

Collier made her first seven shots but cooled off in the second half to finish 9-20 from the field. Lasker was 4-8 from the field, but an impressive 4-5 from beyond the 3-point arc after halftime. Little Rock shot 24-54 from the field (44%) while Coastal finished at 20-48 shooting (42%). The rebounds were just about even, with Coastal getting 31 rebounds against 30 for Little Rock.

Coastal scored the first two buckets of the game, but Little Rock took the lead at 5-4 and led the rest of the way. Collier carried the Trojans from the start as she had 13 points in the first period to help Little Rock to a 20-13 lead. Neither team did much in the second period, but Coastal pulled to within four, 26-22, on Hamilton's layup before going scoreless for the last 4:25 and trailing 30-22 at the break. Collier already had 17 points at the half on 8-13 shooting while the rest of her team was just 5-16. Hamilton led the Chanticleers with 6 points and 9 rebounds in the first 20 minutes.

Coastal has another home game at 2 p.m. Saturday against Arkansas State before heading back on the road to Louisiana for a pair of games next week.
