2nd Round Results
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – It was a record day for the Coastal Carolina University women's golf program as the Chanticleers shot an eight-under 280 in today's second round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate. The 280 is the program's lowest 18-hole team round by one stroke.
CCU's eight-under round was the best round of the day and jumped the Chants up six spots and into a tie for first place with a one-under 575 (295-280) with Fresno State.
The Chants were once again led by the two returning sophomores in
Jenjira Jinangkul and
Tiffany Arafi. Jinangkul tied her career high with a five-under 67, which is also tied for the third best single round score in school history. She also shot a 67 during her freshman season at the Bubba Burger Jacksonville Classic (10/02/18).
She moved into a tie for second place with her finish which included a team-best six birdies against only one bogey, which came on her 17th hole. Her two-day total of 138 is tied for the fourth best two-day score in program history.
Arafi was only one shot back after turning in a 68 (35-33) which was one stroke off her career-best round of 67 she shot last year at the Lady Paladin Invitational (09/22/18). After two days, Arafi has a four-under 140 (72-68) and will enter the final round tied for fourth.
Jinangkul and Arafi were not the only Chants to turn in a sub-par performance in the record-setting round.
Caitlin Evans-Brand carded a one-under 71 (37-34). She is two-over with her 146 (75-71) and will go into the third round tied for 20th.
Freshman
Heidrun Hylnsdottir had a solid round as well. She shot a 37 on both the front and back nine for her two-over 74, knocking four strokes off her first round score. She is eight-over with her 153 (78-74) and is presently tied for 61st. Sophia Carlson had an up-and-down day for CCU finishing the day with an 85 (43-42).
Following CCU and Fresno State are North Florida and Sun Belt member Troy. Both stand at even-par with a two-day score of 576. The College of Charleston, serving as host on its home course, rounds out the top five with a three-over 579.
