Nemeth Records 30 Kills in Four Set-Win Over Troy

CONWAY – On Friday night, sophomore Anett Nemeth recorded her third 30-kill match and seventh double-double of the season in the 3-1 (36-38, 25-19, 29-27, 28-18) victory over the Troy Trojans. With the win, the Chants remain in first-place of the Sun Belt East Division and improved to 22-5 overall and 12-3 in conference play.

The two teams played a marathon in set one with Troy jumping out to a one set to none lead with a 38-36 win. Set one saw 14 ties and seven lead changes as the Chanticleers outhit their opponent by the mark of .261 to .208 and connected with five services aces. The service game proved to be the Chants' downfall as they had six service errors in the set one loss.

Nemeth came out swinging in the first set with 10 of her match-high 30 kills. No other CCU player would have more than four putaways in the set.

In set two, with the Chanticleers in front of Troy by the score of 20-10, the Trojans would cut into the Coastal lead by five points, as they would win nine of the next 12 points to make the score 24-19.

After five set points, the 2018 All-Sun Belt performer Nemeth connected with her last kill of the set to total 17 after two sets of play to close out the Trojans 25-19.

It was a slugfest in the third set as both teams had outstanding hitting percentages. The Chanticleers would hit an impressive .455 (14-of-28) with one error while Troy hit .355 (17-of-31) with six errors.

Troy's Halston Hillier would lead her team to a 13-11 lead through the first half of set three with four kills. In the second half of the set, CCU would get contributions from their other key players. Coastal found a little offensive rhythm, as they would reel off four-straight points with kills from junior Ani Bozdeva and freshman Ilse Sinnige.

Both teams would trade points, but with the score notched at 26 points all, Coastal Carolina would go onto win the set 29-27 with kills from redshirt sophomore Christina Nance and junior Kyla Manning

With the Trojans' eyes set on Nemeth, the Atlanta, Ga., native, Manning played big in the third set as she recorded four kills with a hitting percentage of .571 (4-of-7) and no errors.

The taller Chanticleer blockers forced their smaller opponents to a hitting percentage of .105 (11-of-25) with seven errors in the 25-18 set four win. Cheyenne Hayes led Troy offensively on the season but CCU held her to a .200 hitting percentage with two errors in set four while fellow hitter Ashley Guenveur was also held in check with a -.200 hitting percentage and three errors.

Manning had 11 kills in the match victory, marking the 17th time the junior has reached double-digit kills this season.

Coastal freshman setter Brigitta Petrenko had a team-high 49 assists while continuing to be tough at the service line this season as she added three more aces in the win.

Along with Nemeth's 13 digs, freshman libero Lina Perugini added a team-high 15 digs.

For Troy, Hayes led her team with 16 kills and 17 digs while setter Amara Anderson had a match-high 52 assists in the four set-loss.

Coastal will return to The HTC Center on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET for the home season-finale against the South Alabama Jaguars. Before the match, CCU will recognize their lone senior on this year's squad, Mariia Levanova
