GREENVILLE, S.C. – Coastal Carolina football junior running back
CJ Marable has been named a finalist for the 2019 Blanchard-Rogers Trophy presented by Hale's Jewelers, the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame (SCFOHF) announced on Wednesday.
Recognized as "South Carolina's Heisman", the Blanchard-Rogers Trophy goes out to the most outstanding collegiate player of the year that has South Carolina ties.
The winner is derived from a vote of its members (fan members, sports media, and its Boards and Executive Team). Online voting at
https://scfootballhof.org/membership/vote/
will begin Nov. 11, 2019, and close on Dec. 9, 2019.
After splitting time in the backfield last season, Marable has stepped into more of a feature back role in 2019 as he leads the team in rushing attempts (123), rushing yards (596), total touchdowns (10), rushing touchdowns (7), and all-purpose yards (902). He is also second on the team in catches (26), receiving yards (268), and touchdown catches (3) entering Thursday night's contest versus Louisiana on ESPNU.
Marable ranks seventh in the Sun Belt and 56th nationally in all-purpose yards per game (112.75). He is also fourth in the league in total touchdowns (10), fifth in rushing touchdowns (7), fifth in scoring (7.8 points per game), and ninth in rushing yards (596).
The Georgia native recorded his third-straight 100-yard rushing game with 100 yards and two scores on just 15 carries in the road win at UMass (Sept. 21), which is the most consecutive games with 100 yards or more on the ground for a Chant since De'Angelo Henderson recorded five-straight such games in 2015.
Marable proved to be clutch in the win over Troy (Nov. 2) last time out, as he scored a touchdown from three yards out with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter and then walked in on the game-winning two-point conversion score to propel Coastal to the 36-35 win.
The Blanchard-Rogers Trophy is planned to be awarded at the organization's annual Enshrinement Banquet on April 2, 2020, at the Hilton Greenville. Current Clemson running back Travis Etienne, Jr., Rock Hill native and Oklahoma State standout quarterback Mason Rudolph, and former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson are past recipients of the trophy.
Football fans of South Carolina are encouraged to vote for this year's recipient, the Class of 2020, and support the organization's community programs by becoming a member at
