No. 16 Chants Open Up Sun Belt Play at ULM This Weekend

Coastal Carolina will wrap up its 12-day road trip this weekend at ULM

Conway, S.C. – For the third-straight season, Coastal Carolina baseball will open up Sun Belt Conference play on the road, as the No. 16 Chants will take on the ULM Warhawks in Monroe, La. The two teams will start the series on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT, play again on Saturday with first pitch set for 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT and conclude the series with the finale on Sunday at Noon ET/11 a.m. CT.

Chants Chatter
  • Coastal Carolina is 1-1 in conference opening contests since joining the Sun Belt in 2017 with a conference-opening loss at Texas State 5-4 in 14 innings in 2017 and a 3-1 win at Arkansas State last season. The Chants lost the conference opening series 2-1 at Texas State in 2017 and swept Arkansas State 3-0 in last year's Sun Belt opening weekend.
  • Coastal has swept the ULM Warhawks in each of the last two three-game weekend conference series since joining the league in 2017. The Chants defeated ULM 7-5 (12), 10-5 and 8-1 in the three-game series in 2017. Last season, CCU took three-straight from the Warhawks by scores of 14-4, 11-4 and 17-16.
  • The Chanticleers are playing in their third different time zone in a week this weekend at ULM. Coastal played three games last weekend - Friday, Saturday and Sunday - in Seattle, Wash. and the Pacific Time Zone. CCU returned to the Eastern Time Zone to play at Clemson on Wednesday and now will compete against the Warhawks in the Central Time Zone in Monroe, La.
  • Coastal has scored four runs or more in a single inning a total of 11 times this season, including a season-high six runs in the first inning in the 14-8 win over Wake Forest on March 6. The Chants are 8-1-1 this season in games which they post a "big inning" and posted two big innings of four runs or more in the win over Wake Forest on March 5.
  • Coastal is a perfect 10-0 this season when holding its opponent to five runs or less for the game. In fact, the Chants won six-straight games from Feb. 16 to Feb. 23 in which they held their foes to less than five runs.
  • The Chants are a perfect 6-0 all-time versus ULM on the diamond. CCU won three-straight over the Warhawks in Monroe in 2017 and then swept ULM in three games at home in Conway, S.C. last season.
  • Seven different Chants have already driven in double-digit RBIs this season. Senior Kieton Rivers leads the way with a team and conference-high 22 RBIs, while Parker Chavers is second with 21 runs batted in. Kyle Skeels (19), Zach Biermann (18), Scott McKeon (13), Keaton Weisz (13) and Cameron Pearcey (11) have all recorded 10 RBIs or more already this year for the Chants.
  • A total of eight different pitchers have logged double-digit innings thus far this season on the mound for the Chants. Starters Zach McCambley (19.1 IP) and Austin Kitchen (19.0 IP) lead the way with 19 innings pitched, while out of the bullpen Matt Eardensohn has a team-high eight appearances and 16.1 innings.
  • Coastal Carolina's pitching staff has struck out double-digit hitters in nine different games this season, including a season-high 13 Ks in back-to-back wins over Indiana (March 3) and Wake Forest (March 5).
  • The CCU offense has scored 10 runs or more nine times this season, including a stretch of four-straight games in wins over Campbell (11 runs), UNCW( 10) and in both games of a doubleheader with Michigan State (13 and 12). On the flip side, the Chants have not allowed 10 runs or more in a single game this season.

  • Coastal returns home to host the Troy Trojans in Sun Belt Conference play at Springs Brooks Stadium on March 22-24.
