Chanticleers to Host the Eagles in Sun Belt Play Beginning Thursday

Conway, S.C. – Coastal Carolina baseball welcomes the Georgia Southern Eagles to Springs Brooks Stadium for a key Sun Belt East Division showdown on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 18-20.

Chants Chatter
  • First-place in the Sun Belt Conference's East Division is on the line this week in the three-game series between the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the Georgia Southern Eagles. The Chants lead the Eagles by a half game as CCU is 8-6 in Sun Belt play, while the Eagles are 8-7 in league action.
  • In each of the last two seasons, each team has earned a series win over the other with two wins overall. Coastal took two of three games at Georgia Southern last season to take the conference series win, while in 2017 the Eagles defeated the Chants out of three times at Springs Brooks Stadium for the series win.
  • Coastal enters the three-game conference series with the Eagles on a three-game losing streak, matching its longest of the season. It is the second three-game skid for the Chants this season and the seventh such streak in the last five years. The three-game losing streak is tied of the longest for the Chants since dropping nine-straight back in 2014.
  • The Chanticleers only four games at home for the entire month of April are on this current four-game home-stand. Coastal hosted the College of Charleston on Tuesday night and welcomes Georgia Southern to Springs Brooks Stadium for a three-game series this weekend, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 18-20.
  • With the forecast of rain on Friday, April 19, the Chants could be looking at their fifth doubleheader this season. Coastal, which has played a doubleheader in each of the last three weekends, has gone 4-4 in twin tilts this season overall with a sweep of Michigan State (Feb. 22), splits with both Arkansas State (March 30) and at South Alabama (April 6) and two losses at Little Rock (April 12).
  • The magic number for CCU this season is six - as in six runs. Coastal is 21-3 overall on the year when scoring six runs or more in a game and just 2-11-1 when scoring less than six runs. When holding its opponents to six runs or less, the Chants are 16-4-1, yet are only 7-10 when allowing six runs or more.
  • Coastal leads the Sun Belt in seven key offensive categories this season. The Chants are first in the league in average (.297), slugging percentage (.475), on-base percentage (.405), hits (395), runs scored (287), RBIs (267) and home runs (47).
  • The Chanticleers are almost unbeatable when leading after eight innings of play. This season, Coastal is 19-01 when leading after eight innings of play and 2-1 when entering the ninth inning tied. However, CCU is just 2-12 overall on the year when trailing after eight innings.
  • This season, the Chants are averaging 9.2 strikeouts per nine innings this season. A total of 10 different pitchers have fanned more batters than then innings pitched on the year, while the Chants also lead the Sun Belt in batters struck out with 347 overall on the season.
  • Coastal is a perfect 13-0 this season when scoring 10 runs or more for the game. However, the Chants are 0-3 when allowing 10 more runs or more per game, which they have done in each of the last two contests entering the conference series with the Eagles.

  • The Chanticleers will return to the road for a non-conference bout at nationally-ranked North Carolina on Tuesday, April 23, in Chapel Hill, N.C. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.
