Mount Pleasant, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team opened its 2019 season with a 1-0 exhibition road victory over in-state opponent College of Charleston, Sunday evening in Mount Pleasant.
The two teams played three periods in the exhibition contest with junior midfielder
Mackenzie Gibbs getting the only goal of the game in the 68th minute off an assist from senior forward
Hannah Miller. The Chanticleer goalkeeping duo of junior
Rylee Atteberry and freshman
Ky Hudson combined to shut out the Cougars to lead the defense in the win despite being outshot 17-10 on the night.
The Chants offense was led by Miller with four shots, while senior defender
Kylie Bostick fired two shots. Senior
Gabby Smychynsky, junior
Sunny Sigurvinsdottir, freshman
Megan Brouse and Gibbs each had one shot apiece.
The Cougars held an 8-3 advantage in corner attempts for the match.
Coastal will return to action on Thursday, Aug 15 as it will host a second in-state foe with South Carolina visiting the CCU Soccer Stadium. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
