TOLEDO, Ohio – Coastal Carolina women's golf opened the 2019-20 season at The Glass City Invitational in Toledo, Ohio on Monday, Sept. 16. The Chanticleers shot a 298, +10, in the morning's first round and added at 307, +19 in the afternoon's second round.
CCU will enter tomorrow's final round in ninth place after carding the 605, +29, on the first day of the event being hosted by the University of Toledo at the Inverness Golf Club. The Chants are ahead of Ohio State by one stroke (606, +30). Wisconsin (609, +33), South Florida (615, +39) and host Toledo (657, +81) also trail the Chants.
None of the 13 teams kept their score under par as Florida finished the day in first place after carding a 581, +5. The Gators are followed closely by Michigan State (583, +7) and Illinois (585, +9) as the only teams to escape the course single digits over par.
The Chanticleers had three first-year players make the trip and freshman
Sophia Carlsen led the team with a three-over 147 (73-74). She led the team with a total of eight birdies on the day, including three consecutive in the morning's first round.
Sophomore
Tiffany Arafi and another freshman
Heidrun Hylnsdottir both shot eight-over 152. Arafi picked up her score with a 74-78 first and second round while Hylnsdottir had a 75-77.
Jenjira Jinangkul had an up-and-down outing. The sophomore finished the two rounds shooting a 10-over 154 (76-78) and sophomore
Caitlin Evans-Brand shot a 12-over 156 (78-78).
