IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Coastal Carolina volleyball team suffered a five-set loss (18-25, 25-19, 26-24, 21-25, 12-15) to Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon to close out the Cy-Hawk Series hosted by Iowa.
Coastal falls to 10-2 with the loss in its final non-conference match of the season. The Chants begin Sun Belt Conference play next weekend, hosting Georgia Southern (Friday, 6:30 p.m.) and Georgia State (Sunday, 12:30 p.m.) in their first home matches of the season at the HTC Center.
After dropping Saturday's first set to Lipscomb, the Chants rallied to win the second and third sets. Coastal hit .275 or higher in each of its set wins, but could not hold off the surging Bison down the stretch.
Lipscomb hit .280 as a team, edging out Coastal's .267 hitting percentage. The Bison also held match advantages in total kills (64-60), digs (54-51) and blocks (8-5).
Lipscomb had four players tally double-digit kills, including Garrett Joiner (16), Samantha Rubal (15), Maddie Phillips (13) and Lanie Wagner (12). Rubal led all players hitting .542 while Phillips checked in at a .440 pace with a match-high of five blocks.
Kyla Manning and
Anett Nemeth tied for the match-high in kills with 20 each. Both hit at an above-.300 clip.
Mariia Levanova added 14 kills.
Brigitta Petrenko recorded a match-leading 51 assists, her third time dishing out 50-plus helpers this season. The freshman also tallied her fifth double-double of the season as she added 10 digs.
