CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak to the Appalachian State Mountaineers 1-0 Thursday evening at the CCU Soccer Stadium. The win improves the Chants record to 4-5-1 overall and 2-1 in Sun Belt play while App State falls to 3-5-2 and 0-1-1 in conference action.
Coastal opened the match pressing the Mountaineer defense with the ball in their half of the field for 51 percent of the opening 45 minutes and outshooting their opponents 9-4. The Chants had a few good looks in the first period, none better than the
Lindie Clark one-timer off the crossing pass from
Loranna Austin which just sailed over the crossbar.
Early in the second period, the Chanticleers took a 1-0 lead off the
Hannah Miller strike from just outside the box.
Mackenzie Gibbs pushed a pass from the right wing finding a streaking Miller for the tally in the 51st minute.
In desperation, the visitors from App State became more aggressive, trying to get the equalizing goal and put the Chants defense on their heels.
CCU's freshman goalkeeper
Ky Hudson picked up her first career shutout needing just one save on the nine shots she faced for the match.
Coastal Carolina will return to action in eight days when they travel to Arkansas to take on Little Rock in Sun Belt action. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
