CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's golf team finished the first round of the 46
th annual Lady Paladin Invitational tied for eighth place after shooting a 12-over 300 during the first day of action.
Jenjira Jinangkul and
Caitlin Evans-Brand led the Chanticleers efforts with even-par 72 scores on the always tough Furman University Golf Course. Both players shot under par on holes 1-9 with the front nine playing as a par-35 score with only one par-five and holes 10-18 play as a par-37.
Jinangkul picked up her score with a 33-39 while Evans-Brand shot a 34-38. Both players finished the opening 18 holes tied for 11
th.
Tiffany Arafi shot two-over on both the front and back nine holes (37-39) to finish with a four-over 76 which has her tied for 37th.
Heidrun Hylnsdottir and
Sophia Carlsen had up-and-down rounds with Hylnsdottir finishing tied for 59
th with an eight-over 80 (38-42) and Carlsen tied for 70
th with a nine-over 81 (39-42).
Alexandra Naumovski made the trip with the team and is competing as an individual. She finished her first round tied for 57
th after shooting a seven-over 79 (41-38).
CCU will enter tomorrow's second round tied with Richmond. The top team in the nation, Wake Forest, leads the tournament after one round with a two-under 286. The Deacons were the only team to finish the opening round under par.
Furman, playing as the tourney host, stands second with a four-over 292. Rounding out the top five are North Florida and South Florida who are tied for third after shooting a five-over 293 and Kansas with a six-over 294.
Tomorrow's second round is scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m. with the Chanticleers teeing off among the first groups at nine. Hole-by-hole scores can be followed at goccusports.com.
