COLUMBIA, S.C. – On Saturday, the Coastal Carolina indoor track and field team wrapped up their first weekend of the season at the South Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex with the Gamecock Opener. Highlighting the Chants' second day of competition was freshman Kadasia Evans' fourth-place finish in the high jump.
Evans' first high jump event of her career included her best jump of the day that cleared 1.63 meters. Reide Ryans of N.C. A&T won the event with a height of 1.72 meters.
Freshmen Melissa Jefferson, Tariney Pepper, Madison Jones, and Erin Palmer all represented the Chanticleers in the 200-meter dash.
Jefferson was the lone Chanticleer to finish within the top 20. The Georgetown, S.C. native ran the sixth heat of a total of 30 and placed second, but overall the sprinter finished in 16th-place with a time of 25.15.
Also, finishing in the top 76 of the 123 runners were Pepper, Jones, and Palmer. Pepper would finish 64th overall with a time of 26.50, Jones would end the day in 68th-place with a time of 26.56, and with a time of 26.88, Palmer placed 76th overall.
Taking the win in the 200-meter dash was Florida runner, Taylor Manson. The junior won the event with a time of 23.59.
The Chanticleers will return to the track on Jan. 24-25 at the Darius Dixon Memorial Open at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
