LEXINGTON, VA. - The Coastal Carolina indoor track and field team competed on day one of the two-day VMI Invitational. The CCU women have one athlete move into the finals of the 60-meter finals on Saturday and have two other individuals earning top 10 finishes.
Erin Palmer excelled the best of all the Chanticleer 60-meter hurdlers on Friday afternoon as she finished with the 11th overall best time (9.11) and will advance to Saturday's finals. Teammate Erica Evans' time of 9.37 placed her 17th overall in the event.
In the 5000 meters, Ashley Rulison finished ninth out of 25 runners, and first in her section with a time of 18:19.02.
George Mason's Annabelle Eastman picked up the win the 5000-meter run with a time 17:08.38.
In the triple jump, freshman Jaquoia Williams earned a top 10 finish as she finished 7th out of 43 jumpers. The Moncks Corner, S.C., native jumped 11.34 meters in her first collegiate triple jump event.
Sophomore Kelsia Moore also competed in triple jump and finished with a distance of 10.86 meters.
Alexis Brender of William and Mary earned the victory with a mark of 11.85 meters.
In the semifinals of the 60-meter dash, Madison Jones placed 24th-place with a personal-best time of 7.98. Teammate Kayla Watkins finished the preliminary round 50th overall with a time of 8.46.
In the women's elite high jump, freshman Kadasia Evans matched her personal best height of 1.60, good for fourth-place.
Virginia Tech's JaneAnne Tvedt earned the win the event-best 1.65 meters.
The Chanticleers continue with the VMI Invitational on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., with the mile run through 3:00 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relay.
