Conway, S.C. – Coastal Carolina baseball will host the UNCW Seahawks on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 4 p.m. ET at Springs Brooks Stadium.
AND SWITCH
• This week's midweek contest was not originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Springs Brooks Stadium. In fact, the game was scheduled to be played on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C.
• Due to expected inclement weather, the game was pushed back a day and moved to Conway, S.C. and Springs Brooks Stadium.
• With the midweek switch, the game scheduled between the Chants and Seahawks for April 7 at Springs Brooks Stadium will now be moved to Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C.
WEATHER STRIKES AGAIN
• The weather has already wreaked havoc on the Chanticleers' schedule this season, as each of their last two games were washed out due to inclement weather.
* Sunday, Feb. 16 versus Virginia Tech (cancelled)
* Tuesday, Feb. 18 at UNCW (postponed)
UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS IN SEASON OPENERS
• With their season-opening 12-4 win over UNCG on Feb. 14, Coastal Carolina is now 32-13 overall in season openers since 1974.
• Since 2000, the Chanticleers are 19-2 in season openers with the lone two losses coming to Pittsburgh to start the 2014 season and at Campbell in the 2005 season opener.
• In home openers since 1974, the Chanticleers are 35-9, including a perfect 6-0 mark at Springs Brooks Stadium.
• Since head coach
Gary Gilmore took over at his alma mater in 1996, Coastal is 21-4 in season openers, while posting a 23-2 record when playing its first home game of the season under Gilmore.
• CCU's lone home-opening losses under Gilmore were versus Pittsburgh in 2014 and North Carolina in 1998.
OLD RIVALRY
• Coastal Carolina is 62-34 all-time versus the UNC Wilmington Seahawks.
• The Chants won two of the three meetings between the two teams last season, splitting the two contests at UNCW and Brooks Field.
• CCU has won eight out of the last 10 meetings between the two teams dating back to the 2015 season.
• The two teams have played each other at least once every year since 1989 minus the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
A FIRST IN THE SERIES SINCE 1995
• For the first time since 1995, the matchup between Coastal Carolina and UNCW will not include the matchup between CCU's
Gary Gilmore and UNCW's Mark Scalf.
• Former UNCW head coach Mark Scalf retired after the 2019 season where he had coached the Seahawks since 1992.
• Coastal Carolina head coach
Gary Gilmore took over the Chanticleers' program in 1996 and is in his 25th season at the helm of his alma mater.
• The first time these two coaches faced off as the head coaches of CCU and UNCW was back on Feb. 14, 1996, which was won by Gilmore and the Chants by a score of 9-6 in Conway, S.C.
• The last time these two programs met where Gilmore and Scalf were not in the opposing dugouts for this series was on May 6, 1995, a 6-5 11-inning win for the Seahawks.
PRESEASON LOVE
• Coastal Carolina was picked to finish second in the East Division by the league's coaches in the 2020 Sun Belt Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• UNCW was selected by the leagues' coaches to defend its Colonial Athletic Association championship from last season.
BACK-TO-BACK TOURNAMENT TITLES
• Both Coastal Carolina and UNCW have had recent success over the last few years in each program's respective conference championship tournaments.
• CCU has won each of the last two Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship tournaments (2018 and 2019), including as a No. 5 seed last year.
• UNCW has recorded back-to-back Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Championship tournaments (2018 and 2019), including as a No. 5 seed last year as well.
ON THE HORIZON
• Following Wednesday's clash with the Seahawks, the Chanticleers will reamin at home to host the annual Brittain Resorts Invitational from Feb. 21-24.
• CCU will host Saint Joseph's for the first time ever on Friday, Feb. 21 and Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 22.
• The Chanticleers will then play Kennesaw State on Sunday, Feb. 23, and turn around to host West Virginia in a matinée on Monday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. ET.
