BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – On Tuesday, the Coastal Carolina track and field team wrapped up the 2020 Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships at the CrossPlex with freshman Melissa Jefferson earning second-team all-conference in the 60-meter dash.
Jefferson would lead all CCU athletes in the afternoon as she would finish in second-place of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.59 behind Texas State's Sadi Giles time of 7.38.
Senior Hesmari Coetzee finished in fifth-place in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 55.96 behind Appalachian State's Jessica Dixon time of 55.25.
Senior Alyssa LeClaire finished in sixth-place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.55 behind Troy's Gemma Finch time of 2:12.23.
Freshman Ashley Rulison finished in 28th-place in the 3000 meters with a personal best time of 10:32.92 behind Georgia State's Lotte Meyberg time 9:42.39.
The 4x400 team of Tariney Pepper, Erica Evans, Jefferson, and Coetzee took eighth-place with a season-best time of 3:51.89. The women of UT Arlington earned the win with a time of 3:44.51.
Freshman Kadasia Evans earned a top 10 finish in the high jump with her best height of the day of 1.64 meters. Katherine Stuckly of Texas State took the victory in the event with an event-best height of 1.75 meters.
In the triple jump, Jaquoia Williams placed 10th overall with a personal best jump of 11.70 meters. Kelsia Moore placed in the top 20 of the triple jump with a distance of 11.28 meters. Naomi Ferdinand of Texas State picked up the win with her best jump of the day at 12.44 meters.
Ty-Layshia West was the highest CCU finisher in the weight throw finals on Tuesday afternoon. The freshman finished tied her season-best mark of 15.11 meters. Shareya Newsome and Kacey Lombard finished back-to-back positions at 22 and 23. Both Newsome and Lombard finished the event with personal best throws of 13.06 meters and 11.91 meters, respectively.
Giles and Meyberg would go onto to tie for a meet-best 20 points scored.
Coastal Carolina would end the championship in 12th-place with 17 team points scored.
CCU will start the outdoor season on Mar. 13-14 as they compete at the Coastal Carolina Invitational at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
