Daytona Beach, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team defeated the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 4-2 in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Wednesday at the City Island Tennis Courts. With the win, the Chanticleers improved to 5-3 on the year and Bethune-Cookman dropped to 1-7 on the season.
 
The Chants recorded wins on courts No. 1 and No. 3 with identical 6-3 scores to claim the doubles point. The CCU duo of Zak Talic and Joel Popov defeated Victor Castro and Gerhard Sullwald 6-3 to give Coastal the advantage on for the point.
 
Diaki Tanabe and Juan Castellanos clinched the doubles point for the Chanticleers with a 6-3 win over Phillip Lynch and Joshua Cardiz-Ramcharitar to put Coastal up 1-0 in the match.
 
In singles action, Coastal clinched the match with victories on courts No. 5, No. 1, and No. 3. Castellanos pushed CCU in front 2-0 with the 6-4, 6-0 straight-set win over Lynch on court No. 5.
 
The Wildcats evened the contest up at 2-2 recording back-to-back wins on courts No. 2 and No. 4.
 
The Chanticleers closed out the match as Talic picked up his second win of the day with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Castro on the No. 1 court while Gonzalo Achondo was leading 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 in the third set before Joaquin Bianchi retired for the 4-2 match win.
 
The Chanticleers continue their trek through Florida as CCU will head to Deland, Fla. to take on Stetson on Friday, March 13, with the first serve scheduled at 2 p.m. ET.
