HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina's women's golf team shot a 307, +19, and stands in second place in stroke play after the first day of action at the Battle at Old South tournament in Hilton Head, S.C.
Freshman
Nicole Abelar had a strong opening 18 holes shooting a two-over 74 and finished the day in second place overall, just three strokes out of the lead.
Caitlin Evans-Brand and
Heidrun Hlynsdottir had solid rounds, with both shooting a five-over 77 and finishing tied for seventh in the overall individual standings.
Sophia Carlsen and
Frantiska Lunackova were also tied after Friday's action with both shooting a seven-over 79. They are tied for 12th.
Another freshman in
Maika Llarena shot an opening round of eight-over 80 and finished tied for 17th after the first day of play.
Two rounds of match play will begin Saturday morning at 8 a.m. ET. The Chants will play South Carolina-Beaufort in the first round of match play beginning at 8 a.m. ET. The final two teams advancing Saturday will compete Sunday to determine the event's winner.
