WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Coastal Carolina's Megan Hopton advanced to the round of 16 after posting two wins in the main draw on the opening day of the ITA Carolina Regional Championships on Thursday.

In the first round of the qualifying draw, Hopton picked up a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jacy Smith of Western Carolina. She would follow up in the afternoon session with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Rachel Marthinsen of UNCW to move on to Friday's round of 16 action in the main draw.

Also competing for the Chants in the qualifying main singles draw were Valentina Urelli and Mathilde Tranberg.

Tranberg picked up a win in her singles draw earning a 7-5,6-3 win over Anna Uljanov of Western Carolina before dropping her second-round match to Samantha Buyckx of Clemson 6-2, 6-3. Urelli fell in the first round to Alisa Diercksen of East Carolina 6-4, 6-4 and then suffered a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Helena Jansen of App State in the first round of the consolation bracket.

Hopton would also pick up a doubles win along with her partner Jesse Hollins by blanking the UNC Greensboro pair of Hannah Mitchell and Juliana Craft 8-0 in the Main A1 Doubles Draw, while the pair of Anna Babayan and Urelli were recorded an 8-4 win over Alexandra Anttila and Sophia Hatton of Clemson at 8-4 in the Main A2 Doubles Draw.

Tranberg would also earn a victory in the doubles draw with partner Isabella Weatherhead 8-7 (10-4) over the Wofford duo of Liz Massie and Ansley Hardeman of Wofford in the Women's Open Doubles Main B Draw.

The Chants will return to action on Friday, Oct. 22, as Hopton and Tranberg will continue play in the qualifying main draw, while de  Victoire De Samucewicz will compete in the Main A1 Singles Draw. Hollins, Weatherhead, and Paola Landin Lopez will compete in the B1 Singles Draw on Friday.
