Women's Golf Tied for Fourth After Opening Round of Evie Odom Invite

Arafi, Carlsen, and Sarrion finish round at one-over

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team shot a five-over 285 in Sunday's first round of the Evie Odom Invitational to finish the round tied for fourth.

A couple of veterans and a freshman led CCU in today's opening round as senior Tiffany Arafi, junior Sophia Carlsen and freshman Sara Sarrion each shot a one-over 71 on the first day of action. All three players are tied at 15 heading into tomorrow's second round.

Arafi had two birdies and a bogey on the front nine to make the turn at one-under. She followed that with two bogeys on the back nine to finish with her 71 (34-37).

Sarrion had a very consistent day, finishing the round with 16 pars. She had one birdie and one double bogey during her action, while Carlsen's round didn't start very well. She had a double-bogey on the opening hole and then added a birdie on the second. She then had another bogey on the fourth before five consecutive pars to make the turn at two-over. On the back nine she continued her par run with pars on 10 and 11 before stringing together three birdies over the next six holes. Her only blemish on the back nine was a double-bogey on hole 16.

Caitlin Evans-Brand had a solid round as well, finishing with a two-over 72 in the opening 18 holes. She had and even-par 35 on the front nine and had a double-bogey on the 18th hole two finish the round tied for 24th.

Jenjira Jinangkul shot a four-over 74 in today's action. Her round was highlighted by consecutive birdies on holes seven, eight and nine. She is tied for 35th heading into the second round.

It was a tough day to score as only one team managed to finish the round under par. Sacramento State finished the round with the lead after posting a four-under 276.

After the leader, there are only 10 strokes separating the next nine teams. Charlotte is second after their two-over 282. Central Florida is only two shots back with a four-over 284. CCU and Chattanooga round at the top-five at five-over 285.
