VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team shot a four-over 284 in Tuesday's final round of the Evie Odom Invitational to finish third with a nine-over 849 (285-280-284).
Senior
Tiffany Arafi completed her outstanding tournament with an even-par 70 in the final round as she finished second overall in the event with a five-under 205 (71-64-70). The 205 is tied for the best low score in program history, matching the 205 of former teammate
Nicole Abelar, who shot the same score last year at the River Landing Classic. Arafi's score of 135 over the first two rounds also tied her for the top mark in program history.
"What a great tournament for Tiff,", head coach
Katie Quinney said. "It's really hard to back up a great round like she had yesterday, and she did that with today's round. She kept the ball in front of her, kept the ball in play, and made some really good shots."
Freshman
Sara Sarrion also finished the final round in strong fashion with an even-par 70. She finished the event tied for 11th with a two-over 212 (71-71-70).
Sophia Carlsen and
Jenjira Jinangkul each finished the tournament with a four-over 74. Carlsen finished tied for 24th with a seven-over 217 (71-72-74), while Jinangkul finished tied for 42nd at 11-over 221 (74-73-74).
Caitlin Evans-Brand turned in her best round of the tournament with an even-par 70. She jumped 16 spots in the standings to finish tied for 29th with an eight-over 218 (72-76-70).
"We would have loved to finish second, but we had a really strong tournament," Quinney added. "I'm really happy with the way the team played, and I think this team is headed in the right direction."
The scoring continued to be tough in Tuesday's final round with only one team breaking par in today's round, and that was the overall tournament winner Central Florida. The 17th-ranked team in the nation shot a six-under 274 in the round to move up five spots with a final one-over 841 score.
The College of Charleston shot the same as CCU finishing with a four-over on the day but finished one shot ahead of the Chants in second on the leaderboard with an eight-over 848. Charlotte (+12, 852) and Sacramento State (+13, 853) rounded out the top five.
South Florida (+14, 854) led the group of second five followed by North Florida (+21, 861), Chattanooga (+22, 862), host Old Dominion (+23, 863), and Campbell (+34, 874).
UNCG (+45, 885), Penn State (+49, 889), and East Carolina (+63, 903) completed the field.
The Chants will take a week off before jumping back into action at the Buccaneer Classic hosted by Charleston Southern on Oct. 18-19 at the Oak Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C.
