Orangeburg, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team swept the South Carolina State Bulldogs at the Hardeep Judge Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon in Orangeburg, S.C.
Doubles action started off the day for the Chants. The men in teal won all three doubles matches over the Bulldogs. The duo of Federico Garnier and super senior Diego Giraldo defeated Benjamin Niv and Pedro Sasso 7-5. Next, the pair of Bastien Huon and Carlos Berna Ruiz won on court two over Omer Gorgun and Zhanger Almashev, 6-3. Rounding out doubles play, the team of Guilherme Toresan and Neil O'Connor earned a 6-3 win over Diego Arzaluz and Ben Ali.
Singles action was up next for the Chants. Garnier got the mean in teal on the board first picking up a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Arzaluz. Huon followed winning his match 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 against Gorgun. Giraldo picked up a win over Niv of the Bulldogs by a score of 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, before Berna Ruiz earned a straight-sets victory over Almashev 6-1, 6-0. To complete the sweep, Toresan earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Luka Stefanovic of the Bulldogs.
"This was a spiirted day of tennis and exactly the kind of day we were hoping for in tennis a lot of competition," stated head coach Chris Powers. "S.C. State is very solid, and they brought a lot of energy to the court and it was impressive to see our guys match up."
Coastal Carolina will remain in Orangeburg, S.C. for a rematch with South Carolina State on Friday, Oct. 8.
