CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 1-0 shutout win over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Friday night marked their second clean sheet of the season. Megan Brouse's 25th-minute goal proved to be the difference for the Chants.
With the win, Coastal improves to 4-6-2 overall and 2-3-1 in Sun Belt play while Louisiana drops to 5-8-0 overall and 2-3-0 in conference play.
"The back line was really, really good tonight, "head coach Paul Hogan said. "The goalkeeper [Ky] was good. We had a lot of people give us good minutes, so it was a big positive for us."
CCU scored the lone goal of the match as Mackenzie Cherry picked up a ball near midfield before dribbling downfield and sending a through ball to Brouse who tallied her third goal of the season. Louisiana looked to answer in the 34th minute, but Hailly Waterhouse's shot was saved as Ky Hudson recorded her first of six saves on the night. Notably, Friday marked Hudson's ninth career shutout.
Louisiana finished the match with nine shots, while the hosts posted just five. Brouse recorded a game-high two shots (one on goal) for the Chanticleers. The Ragin' Cajuns also found the advantage in shots on goal tallying six to the Chanticleers two. CCU found the advantage in shots, as Hudson saved all six of Louisiana's shots on goal.
