MOBILE, Ala. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team fell on the road to South Alabama 4-1 on Saturday afternoon in Mobile, Ala.
The loss snaps CCU's winning streak at six-straight matches and drops the Chants to 6-3 (2-1 SBC) while South Alabama moves to 7-4 (2-0 SBC) with the win.
South Alabama took a 1-0 lead by sweeping two doubles matches and stranding the top doubles match
The Jaguars then posted a pair of 6-3, 6-3 straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 6 in singles action to take a 3-0 lead.
The Chants then scored a win in a big way, as freshman
Jesse Hollins picked up her seventh consecutive singles victory over South Alabama's Diana Monsalve at 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at the No. 5 singles position to cut the USA lead to two at 3-1.
The Jaguars would then clinch the match with a win at the No. 3 position as USA's Yurie Takanishi held off CCU's
Kristyna Jurkova 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Both of the unfinished matches at No. 2 and No. 4 were in tight matches when the match was decided.
Mathilde Tranberg and Nikola Kohoutova were at 4-3 in the third set (7-5, 1-6) on court No. 2, while
Victoire De Samucewicz and Cami Moreno were also in a close second set at 7-6 (7-5), 2-3.
The Chanticleers will remain on the road to take on Troy on Sunday, March. 14, at 11 p.m. ET.
