Women’s Tennis Clips Eagles 5-1

Chanticleers move to 6-3 in Sun Belt play with the win

DURHAM, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team recorded two doubles wins and four singles victories to down North Carolina Central 5-1 on a warm Tuesday afternoon in Durham, N.C.

With the win, the Chants improve to 12-5 on the season overall.

Playing at the No. 1 doubles spot for the first time this season, the duo of Victoire De Samucewicz and Jesse Hollins were victorious with a 6-2 win over the Eagles' Josefa Fernandez and Jade Houston.

While the Eagles took the win at the No. 2 doubles position, a forfeit by NCCU at the No. 3 doubles spot gave the doubles point to the visiting Chants.

Coastal added to its 1-0 match lead with four consecutive singles wins to go up 5-0 on the way to the 5-1 win.

Senior Jessie Mount got the Chants started with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot over Ivana Dragovic, while Hollins picked up a 6-4, 6-0 straight-set win at No. 3 over Maru Berghaus to put CCU in front at 3-0.

Playing at the top spot for the first time this year, Kristyna Jurkova defeated Fernandez 6-1, 6-3 to seal the Chants' win.

CCU's Valentina Urelli followed with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win on court No. 2 over Houston to give the visitors a 5-0 lead.

However, the Eagles spoiled the Chants' shutout attempt with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 win at the No. 5 spot.

The match at No. 6 was a no contest.

The Chants will remain on the road to take on Appalachian State on Wednesday, April 7. The first serve from Boone, N.C. is set for 11 a.m. ET.
