Chanticleers Return to Action this Weekend at UTA

The two teams will play a three-game series on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday

CONWAY, S.C. – After a pause in activities due to COVID-19 protocols and procedures, the Coastal Carolina baseball team will return to action this weekend, April 10-12, for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at UT Arlington in Arlington, Texas.

SCHEDULE
• Game 1 – Saturday, April 10 at 3 p.m. ET
• Game 2 – Sunday, April 11 at 2 p.m. ET
• Game 3 – Monday, April 12 at noon ET

Games at UTA
Due primarily to COVID-related space constraints, general-public spectators are not permitted at home UTA baseball games this season. UTA and the visiting team will be permitted a pass list – those individuals on the team-approved list will be allowed to attend. Those spectators will be seated in pods of four (4) socially-distanced seats, labeled for home or visiting team.

CHARTING THE CHANTS
• Coastal enters their second Sun Belt series at 14-9 overall and 1-2 in Sun Belt play.
• The Chants are coming off a seven-day pause due to COVID-19 protocols and have not played since being shut out in Louisiana on Monday, March 29.
• In their Sun Belt opening series, Coastal dropped two of three games against Louisiana two weekends ago, and were outscored 17-10 in the three-game stretch.
• Coastal also dropped a fourth non-SBC game to Louisiana on Monday 7-0.
• The Chants enter this series with three players batting over .300 and four players with over 20 hits on the season.
• On the mound, the pitching staff posts a 4.56 ERA, ranking fourth in the Sun Belt.

SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS
• The UTA Mavericks are 12-16 overall this season and 3-3 in Sun Belt Conference play entering the weekend versus Coastal Carolina.
• UTA is coming off a 7-6 midweek loss at Baylor on Tuesday, April 6, but has won two of their last three games, including taking two of three games over Texas State in conference play in San Marcos, Texas last weekend (April 1-3).
• The Mavs are 6-7 in home games this season and have not played outside of the states of Texas and Oklahoma all season long.
• UTA's offense is hitting .241 on the season and has three players hitting over .300 on the season in Boone Montgomery (.340), Cason Gregory (.333), and Tommy Williams (.302).
• The Mavs' pitching staff has posted a 4.57 ERA on the year and has struck out 231 batters over 246.0 innings, an average of 8.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

ALL-TIME SERIES
• Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series 6-2 with three of those eight meetings coming in the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship Tournament.
• The Chants beat UTA in both the 2018 and 2019 Sun Belt Conference Tournaments on their way to back-to-back conference championship tournament titles.
• This weekend will mark the Chants' third trip to Arlington, Texas for Sun Belt Conference play since joining the league in 2017.
• Coastal is 4-1 all-time at Clay Gould Ball Park versus the Mavericks, including a three-game series sweep in the two teams' first-ever meeting in 2017.

FREE BASEBALL
• Coastal Carolina and UTA have seen three of their eight match-ups go extra innings.
• In fact, each of their last two meetings, which both came in the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship Tournament, went 10 innings, while three of the last four contests had to be decided in extra innings.

HIT THE PAUSE BUTTON
• The Coastal Carolina baseball program had to pause all baseball activities, including workouts and games, for seven days beginning on March 30 in accordance with the Sun Belt COVID-19 guidelines.
• Coastal's five baseball contests which included a three-game home series against Appalachian State (April 1-3) and back-to-back midweek games at home versus UNCW (April 6) and College of Charleston (April 7) were all postponed for now.
• Rescheduled dates, if any, will be announced when information becomes available.

BEEN THERE BEFORE
• The last time the Chanticleers started the conference season at 1-2 overall was back in 2017. The Chants went 1-2 over the first conference weekend of play at Texas State (March 17-19).
• However, Coastal then ran off six-straight conference wins, posting back-to-back 3-0 sweeps of Arkansas State and Georgia State, and won seven of their last nine conference weekend series over the remainder of the season.

SUN BELT SERIES SUCCESS
• Since moving to the Sun Belt in 2016-17, the Chanticleers have had success in weekend conference series play.
• Entering this weekend's conference series at UT Arlington, Coastal has won 21 of its 31 Sun Belt Conference series since joining the league, including winning nine of its 10 conference series in 2018.
• Overall, the Chants have lost just eight series in conference play since joining the Sun Belt, three of which have come to Louisiana (2018, 2019, and 2021).

#14 CHASING 1000
• Head Coach Gary Gilmore enters the week versus UT Arlington with 988 career wins as the head coach of his alma mater Coastal Carolina.
• That puts #14 just 12 wins away from 1,000 career wins over his 26 years at CCU.

ROAD WAYS
• After playing just one road game for the entire first month of the season, the Chants will be playing their fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth-straight games on the road this week with three at UT Arlington on April 10-12 and a midweek contest at UNCW on April 14.
• CCU is 4-4 on the road overall this year with a midweek road win at then-No. 16 Wake Forest (Feb. 23), two road wins to take the series win over West Virginia (March 19-21) in Morgantown, W.Va., and a Saturday afternoon win at Louisiana (March 27).
