CONWAY, S.C. – With an intrasquad full-pads scrimmage set for Saturday, the Chanticleers returned to helmets and shorts on Friday morning for practice No. 9 of preseason fall camp.
 
Coastal head coach Jamey Chadwell scaled back Friday's training session to just 20 periods and a little over two hours to allow the guys to wrap up their first full week of fall practices as well as rest and recover for the first camp scrimmage on Saturday.
 
Nearing the halfway point of the fall camp season, the Chants continued to sacrifice for one another on a very hot morning on the "Surf Turf". Neither the offense nor the defense dialed back the intensity on Friday, focusing more on individual and position group skill work, as well as eight periods on special teams including kickoff, kickoff return, punt, punt return, field goal, and field goal defense.
 
The Chanticleers will kick off the 2021 season at home versus The Citadel on Thursday night, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. ET inside Brooks Stadium.
 
The season opener is one of seven home games for the Chanticleers this season. The home schedule also includes a program first, as Coastal will host the first-ever Power 5 opponent on the "Surf Turf" inside Brooks Stadium as the Kansas Jayhawks out of the Big 12 Conference make a visit on Friday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
