CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team notched its 100th home win in program history tonight behind two come-from-behind goals as the Chanticleers handed visiting College of Charleston a 2-1 loss at CCU Soccer Stadium Sunday evening.
With the win, the Chanticleers improve to 2-0-0 overall while with the loss the Cougars fall 0-3-1 overall.
"There is something about this game that's always good," head coach
Paul Hogan said. "We dug it out in the second half. I was super proud of our kids and to just grind that out was awesome."
The College of Charleston looked to strike early, tallying 13 shots in the first half alone and held Coastal to just two shots in the 45-minute period. Delaney Dawes' 28th-minute goal put the Cougars up on the road, as she rebounded a shot off the cross bar to find the back of the net. The College of Charleston would hold on to the lead for the remaining 17 minutes and head into the break up 1-0.
It was a tale of two halves, as the Chants notched two unanswered goals as
Carleigh Frilles scored her first goal of the season in the 68th minute to tie the match at 1-all. Frilles connected on a cross from
Loranna Austin who received a pass from
Ella Schad. Both teams looked to convert but it was
Sarah Allen who tallied her second consecutive game-winner as her shot in the 88th minute hit the left post and bounced across to the back-right corner of the net.
The Cougars ended the night with a 17-9 shooting advantage and an 8-7 advantage on shots on frame. Allen recorded a team leading three shots, with two on goal. The Chants found the advantage in saves, 7-5. The visitors did however find the edge in corner kicks, recording six to CCU's four.
Coastal Carolina returns to the pitch and hits the road for the first time this season as they face off against Jacksonville on September 3. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET from Jacksonville, Fla.
