Chanticleers Go 2-0 on Saturday With Wins Over Radford and UNCW

The Chanticleers went 3-0 during the Chanticleer Classic

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team added a pair of wins on Saturday to close out the Chanticleer Classic and improve to 6-2 overall on the season.

 

The Chanticleers earned a victory versus Radford, 25-17, 25-13, 23-25, 25-15 in the early match, before picking up a straight-sets win 25-18, 25-13, 25-16 versus UNCW in the evening session.

 

CCU 3, RADFORD 1

Upperclassmen Doris CarterCheyenne Jones, and Ani Bozdeva led the Chanticleers to a balanced attack in the victory over Radford with double-digit kill matches.

 

Carter led the Chants for the second straight match with a match-high 12 kills in the win, Jones matched her Chanticleer career-high 12 kills, and Bozdeva (10) notched her third consecutive match with at least 10 kills.

Coastal Carolina earned its 33rd all-time victory over Radford in the four-set win.

 

Overall, neither squad had a hitting percentage of .200. However, the Chanticleers led with .199 compared to the Highlanders .028.

 

The graduate student Carter had nine of her 13 kills over the final two sets while hitting .350 to lead CCU to the win.

 

CCU's Marija Borcic led the match with 24 assists in the victory, while teammate Brigitta Petrenko dished out 18.

 

Chanticleer libero Lina Perugini dug 22 balls to lead the match and earn her fourth 20-dig match of the year.

 

Kennedi Johnson led Radford with nine kills, while Login Williams had a team-high 20 assists.

 

CCU 3, UNCW 0 

Jasmine RivestCheyenne Jones, and Ilse Sinnige paced the Chanticleers to the straight-sets win over UNCW with eight kills apiece. As a team, Coastal Carolina had five players collect at least five kills in the victory.

 

In her third match of the season, the redshirt sophomore Rivest earned a career-high eight kills on a .400 hitting percentage. In addition, the Montreal, Canada native pitched in defensively with a career-high six digs.

 

Coastal won the opening set, 25-18, with four service aces and five players having at least two kills apiece. Junior Brigitta Petrenko led the set with two of the four-team aces.

 

Sinnige led the Chants in the set two, 25-13 win with four kills on six attempts. However, the other aspects of her game gave Coastal Carolina a boost in the stanza. The Netherlands native added a service ace and three blocks.

 

The Chanticleers held the Seahawks to a .073 hitting percentage in the third set while hitting .364 themselves. Rivest led Coastal in the 25-16 win with six kills and four digs.

 

The Serbian native Marija Borcic led the match with 21 assists, while Lina Perugini earned 10 digs.

 

Seahawks' outside hitter Katie Lanz had a team-high eight kills and Annabelle Schall had a team-high 16 assists.

 

The Chanticleers will return to action on Sept. 18-19 with a pair of matches at the nationally-ranked Florida Gators. Both games will be available on SEC+.
