CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team clashed with the Presbyterian College Blue Hose in a battle of two Palmetto State schools on Friday at the Stevens Tennis Complex.  It was a back and forth contest, but in the end, the Chanticleers held off a late charge for a 4-3 victory.
 
The home side started things on the right foot during doubles play, as the Chants swept the top three matches.  Anna Babayan and Valentina Urelli defeated Beth Lacy and Zeba Jamal 6-2.  The top two flights each finished with identical 6-4 scores in favor of Mathilde Tranberg and Paola Landin Lopez (No. 1) and Jesse Hollins and Megan Hopton (No. 2 court).
 
Each side tallied two victories apiece through the first four matches in singles action.  Babayan won in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 against Alexa Wilson.  Tranberg put the home team back in front, 3-2, with a win over Jessica Leeman 6-2, 6-4 on court one. Victoire De Samucewicz clinched the win with a 6-0, 7-5 triumph over Zeba Jamal on court two.
 
Coastal Carolina (2-2 overall) will now turn their sights to a road match against Charleston Southern on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at noon ET.
