MOBILE, Ala. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team began a quick two-game road trip on Friday with a Sun Belt Conference match at South Alabama.  It was a close contest throughout, but the Chants fell to the Jaguars 4-2.
 
In doubles action, Coastal Carolina forced a split during the first two contests when Carlos Berna Ruiz and Steve Mundt doubled up Martin Bugaj and Philip Bosman 6-3 on court three.  The doubles point was decided on court two, where South Alabama's Sebastien Collard and Maxime St-Hilaire edged Niccolo Rossi and Bastien Huon 7-6 (7-5).
 
In singles play, ­Neil O'Connor put the men in teal on the scoreboard with a strong 6-4, 6-1 straight-sets victory over Bugaj on court six, which cut the Jags' lead in half at 2-1. 
 
Daiki Tanabe earned a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 win on court five over Javier Montoya, which pulled the Chanticleers within one point at 3-2. 
 
However, South Alabama clinched the overall match victory just a few moments later with a win on court four.
 
The Chants (8-9, 1-2 SBC) will have a quick turnaround as they visit Troy on Saturday, March 26, for an 11 a.m. ET match.
