Box Score WILMINGTON, N.C. – For the second time during the spring season, Coastal Carolina and UNC Wilmington met on the court, but this time in women's tennis. It was a strong outing for the Chants, as they made the trek up the coast and brought back a 5-2 victory.
The host Seahawks staked themselves to an early 1-0 lead after taking two out of three matches in doubles play. The tandem of
Victoire De Samucewicz and
Jesse Hollins picked up a 6-3 win on the second court over Zoe Huffman and Stela Jokismovic.
When singles play began, that's when CCU answered. Trailing by a 2-0 deficit in the match,
Paola Landin Lopez put the Chants on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 straight-set victory over Brinley Bell in the third flight. On the second court,
Mathilde Tranberg defeated Zoe Huffman in consecutive frames by a 6-4, 6-2 score, which tied the match at two points apiece.
Megan Hopton faced off against Lauren Gish on court four and tallied a 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 triumph, which put CCU in front 3-2 at that juncture of the match. Hollins secured the victory for Coastal Carolina in the No. 6 match with a hard-fought 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 triumph over Anna Daniels.
In the final contest of the day, reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week De Samucewicz notched a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Sasha Belaya in the top flight.
Next up for the Chanticleers (5-4) is a weekend trip to the Peach State, where they will face Georgia State (10 a.m., March 12) and Georgia Southern (10 a.m., March 13), respectively.
