WALLACE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's golf team shot a four-under 284 in Tuesday's final round of the River Landing Classic, moving up two spots to finish eighth overall with a 23-over 887 (304-299-284).
The Chanticleers' four-under third-round performance is the best round of the spring so far and was also the second-best round of the day, only trailing East Carolina's round of seven-under (281).
CCU's top finisher of the Classic was junior
Jenjira Jinangkul. She finished tied for 20th with a five-over 221 (74-77-70). She was one of three Chanticleers to card a sub-par round and tied for a team-best round of 70 on Tuesday. It was also her best event of the season after missing all of the 2020-21 season due to the pandemic.
Freshman
Sara Sarrion finished tied for 27th after scoring a six-over 222 (78-70-74) over the two-day event.
Tiffany Arafi was another top-30 finisher with her seven-over 223 (75-78-70). It was also Arafi's best score of the spring.
Sophia Carlsen shot better in each round and culminated her score with a one-under 71 in Tuesday's action. She finished tied for 40th after scoring a 10-over 226 (81-74-71).
Caitlin Evans-Brand also turned in her best round of the two days with a one-over 73. She finished tied for 46th with a 12-over 228 (77-78-73).
Playing as an individual in her first spring outing,
Maika Llarena had her best round, finishing with a two-over 74. She improved her score in each round and finished tied for 65th with a 17-over 233 (83-76-74).
James Madison entered the day in first place and held on to win the championship with a round of three-under on the day. Their two-over 866 was just one shot better than East Carolina's three-over 867.
Boston College joined JMU, ECU, and CCU with a sub-par score, carding a two-under 286 in today's round. BC was able to make the largest jump of the day, moving up four spots to finish third with a 15-over 879. Elon was just two strokes back with a 17-over 881, while Charlotte finished fifth with a 19-over 883.
Kennesaw State and Boston University each finished one stroke ahead of the Chants with a 22-over 886, while Richmond and host UNCW finished tied behind CCU at 29-over 893.
Rounding out the field were USC Upstate (+36, 900), William & Mary (+37, 901), Marshall (+45, 909), and UNCG (+55, 919).
CCU will not have a lot of time to rest as the Chants will be back in action this Saturday and Sunday, March 12-13, at the Valspar Augusta Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
