DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team shot a 15-over 303 in the first round of the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship to finish the round tied for sixth place.
Reigning 2021 Sun Belt Championship low-medalist
Sophia Carlsen led CCU in today's opening round, as she shot a two-over 74 on the first day of action by carding a 37-37 and is tied for seventh heading into tomorrow's second round.
Tiffany Arafi was just one shot back of Carlsen with a three-over 75 (38-37). She is tied for 14th moving into Monday's second round.
Freshman
Sara Sarrion had an up-and-down first round. After opening play with a four-over 40 over the first nine holes, she turned that around with an even-par 36 on the back nine. Her four-over 76 has her tied for 24th after today's action.
Caitlin Evans-Brand was also consistent in today's action, shooting a 39-39 in the round to finish tied for 39th with a six-over 78.
Jenjira Jinangkul finished her round with a seven-over 79 (38-41) and is tied for 44th.
The LPGA International Hills Course played tough in today's opening round as none of the 11 teams finished par or better. In a tight field where only 13 strokes separate the entire field, Georgia Southern's six-over 294 leads the pack. UTA and Arkansas State are tied for second just three shots back of the Eagles at nine-over 297. Troy (+10, 298) and Appalachian State (+13, 301) round out the top five.
The Chanticleers and ULM (+15, 303) are tied for sixth, while Texas State (+17, 305) is in seventh. Little Rock and South Alabama are tied for ninth after an 18-over 306 round, while Georgia State (+19, 307) rounds out the field.
The second round is scheduled to begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. ET, with the Chanticleers slated to tee off at 8:45 a.m. ET. Links to watch live on ESPN+, as well as live stats can be found at
