DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team shot a 4-over 292 in the second round of the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship on Monday. CCU's score was the best team-round of the day and propelled the Chanticleers up four spots and into second place, only two shots out of first.
CCU carded a team-best 11 birdies over the second round. The 292 round is Coastal's fourth-best round at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in the program's history.
Freshman
Sara Sarrion led CCU's ascension up the team leaderboard with an even-par 72, carding a 36 on both the front and back nine. Her play moved her up 18 spots on the individual player leaderboard and she now enters the final round tied for sixth with a four-over 148 (76-72).
Sophia Carlsen and
Tiffany Arafi continued their steady play with each firing a one-over 73. Carlsen is the Chants low-scorer through the first two rounds, holding down fifth-place with a three-over 147 (74-73), while Arafi is tied with Sarrion in sixth-place with a four-over 148 (75-73).
Caitlin Evans-Brand moved up 16 spots with her two-over 74 to move into a tie for 23rd at eight-over 152 (78-74).
Jenjira Jinangkul sits in a tie for 52nd at 17-over 161 (79-82).
Georgia Southern started Monday's action in the top spot and held on to the team lead after shooting an 11-over 299. Their overall score of 19-over 593 is just two strokes in front of CCU's 17-over 595 score. Arkansas State is third at 23-over 599 and Texas State is one shot back at 24-over 599.
Only six shots separates the next six spots as Georgia State and South Alabama are tied for fifth at 28-over 604. UTA is one shot back with a 29-over 605. Troy (+30, 606), ULM (+31, 607), and Little Rock (+32, 608) are bunched together, while Appalachian State rounds out the field at 38-over 614.
The final round is scheduled to begin tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. ET with the Chanticleers slated to tee off at 8:45 a.m. ET. Links to watch live on ESPN+, as well as live stats can be found at
