LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team was honored for their academic excellence as the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its list of Team Academic Award recipients for the 2021-22 academic year.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate, and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. A total of 1,212 teams earned the award for the 2021-22 season.
The Chanticleer beach volleyball program closed the 2021-22 year with a 3.715 combined GPA, marking the fifth-straight season (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022) that the young program has been recognized by the AVCA. One of just 37 NCAA Division I beach volleyball programs to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award this past season, a total of 16 student-athletes on the beach volleyball team had a 3.0 GPA or higher for the year.
