CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team finished third at the Jennifer Duke Invitational after shooting a 10-over 294 in Tuesday's final round. The Chants finished the event with a 55-over 907 (313-300-294), showing improvement over each round of play.
Sophia Carlsen was a bright spot all three rounds, finishing the event with a seven-over 220 (75-71-74) at the par 71 Losantiville Country Club, which gave her a share of the individual title. It's the second individual title of her career.
The Chants had two other top-20 finishers.
Luisa Gibson completed her first tournament as a Chanticleer with a 13-over 226 (81-73-72). Her 72 in today's final round was the Chants' best round of the day and placed her in a tie for ninth, while
Tiffany Arafi finished tied for 17th with an 18-over 231 (78-80-73).
Sophomore
Isabella Spinazze had the best finish of her CCU career with a tie for 27th after carding a 22-over 235 (82-78-75).
Sara Sarrion finished tied for 44th with a 29-over 242 (80-78-85).
Western Carolina won the event after starting the round in second place. The Catamounts shot a round-best nine-over to finish with a 45-over 897. Western Kentucky, who started the day in the lead, shot a 24-over in the round and fell to a second-place finish at 54-over 906. That was just one shot ahead of CCU's 907, with Xavier finishing with a 58-over 910. Marshall completed the top-five with a 71-over 923.
Host Cincinnati led the rest of the field after firing a 79-over 931. Akron finished seventh with an 87-over 939, followed by Ohio's 92-over 944. Rounding out the field, were Dayton (+115, 967), Cincinnati's "B" team (+116, 968), and Northern Kentucky (+129, 981).
The Chanticleers will be back in action at the annual Lady Paladin Invitational hosted by Furman University on Sept. 23-25 at the Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C.
