MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team is in 12th place after the first round of the Rivertowne Invitational, after shooting an 11-over 299 in Sunday's first round at the Rivertowne Country Club in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The Chants have a top-30 scorer after the first round of play, as
Sara Sarrion is tied for 27th after shooting an opening round one-over 73 (35-38). Her 35 on the front nine was the best score for the Chants in today's round.
Isabella Galla, playing in her first match as a Chanticleer, shot a two-over 74 (36-38) and is tied for 34th heading into the second round.
Isabella Spinazze (36-40) and
Luisa Gibson (38-38) each finished the first round tied for 55th after carding a four-over 76, while
Clare Gimpel is tied for 88th after shooting a 10-over 82 (43-39) in the first round.
Boston College was the only team to break par in the opening round and holds the lead after shooting a three-under 285. Tulane is tied for second with host Charleston Southern, as both shot a one-over 289. Morehead State (+2, 290), and Elons (+3, 291) make out the top five.
Jacksonville is tied for sixth with High Point as each team shot a four-over 292. USC Upstate and UNCA stand tied for eighth after each carded at five-over 293. Western Carolina is 10th with a six-over 294.
Fairleigh Dickinson is presently one shot in front of the Chants, with Longwood and Richmond just one shot back of CCU with a 12-over 300. North Alabama is 15th after shooting a 13-over 301.
The rest of the field includes Lipscomb (+14), Seton Hall (+16), Winthrop (+33), and The Citadel (+68).
