Make It Nine Wins in a Row for Women’s Tennis

Women’s Tennis defeated Rhode Island 7-0 on Tuesday

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina overcame the cold and windy conditions to extend its winning streak to nine consecutive wins on Tuesday morning as the Chanticleers defeated the visiting Rhode Island Rams 7-0 at the Stevens Tennis Complex.

The Chanticleers have won nine-straight matches and sit at 9-4 overall entering conference play this weekend.

CCU once again picked up the doubles point, sweeping the Rams in all three matches.

The team of Anna Babayan and Megan Hopton recorded their ninth-straight win at the No. 1 doubles spot with a 6-3 victory over Sophie Herman and Valentina Cvackova, while CCU's duo of Tatum Burger and Lilie Steryous defeated Rhode Island's team of Nadia Rajan and Ava Grnja 6-3 on court No. 2.

Coastal's tandem of Jesse Hollins and Victoire De Samucewicz completed the doubles sweep with a 7-5 win over Nikki Fernando and Priyanka Shanker on court No. 3 and extended their winning streak to five consecutive wins.

The Chanticleers cruised to a pair of straight-set wins to start singles play, as Hollins won 6-1, 6-1 over Paulina Loredo on court No. 5, which was followed by Steryous defeating her opponent Grnja 6-0, 6-2 on court No. 6 to put the Chants up 3-0.

De Samucewicz pushed the Chants' lead to 4-0 in the match with a 6-0, 6-2 straight-set win over Herman on court No. 1, giving the Women in Teal their ninth-straight win and seventh consecutive victory on the current home stand.

The home team closed out the match with a 7-5, 6-3 win from Burger over Fernando on court No. 4, while both Babayan (6-2, 7-5) and Hopton (6-3, 6-4) came from behind to win in straight sets on courts No. 2 and 3, respectively.
With their wins over the Rams in singles play, both Hollins and Hopton extended their winning streaks to eight consecutive matches, while Babayan, De Samucewicz, and Steryous pushed their winning streaks to two.
