PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team jumped up eight spots in Tuesday's second round of the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate after shooting an eight-over 292 for the day. CCU's eight-spot jump was the biggest move of the day for any of the teams and places the Chants in eighth place at 34-over 602 (310-292) heading into Wednesday's final round.
After shooting a 72 in Monday's opening round,
Sara Sarrion topped that with a one-under 70 on the par-71, 6,003-yards course on Tuesday. Sarrion leads the field with a 2.70 scoring average on the par 3 holes and is tied for fifth on par-4 scoring (4.06) while sitting second in pars with 26. She also has five birdies in the tournament which is tied for the 15th most. She enters tomorrow's final round tied for fifth with an even-par 142 (72-70).
Luisa Gibson is tied for 30th with a nine-over 151 (77-74), while
Isabella Spinazze is tied for 40th after carding an 11-over 153 (77-76). Spinazze is tied for 25th in par-5 scoring with a 5.00 average, while her 23 pars for the tournament are tied for 20th.
Clare Gimpel had the best improvement of the round, knocking 12 strokes off her opening round finish. She had four birdies on the day and has five for the tournament, tying with teammate Sarrion for team-high honors. She will enter the final round tied for 55th with a 14-over 156 (84-72).
Isabella Galla heads into the final round 86th with a 29-over 171 (87-84).
Elan Fleetwood is playing as an individual player and is tied for 74th with an 18-over 160 (79-81).
James Madison sits atop the leaderboard at three-over 571 and has distanced itself from the field. Second place UNCA at 19-over 587 is 16 strokes off the lead. UNCG is in third at 21-over 589, while FGCU and Illinois-Chicago are tied for fourth at 24-over 592.
North Dakota State sits sixth with a 28-over 596, while East Carolina (+32, 600) is in seventh and only two strokes better than CCU (+34, 602). Morehead State (+36, 604) is two strokes back of the Chants, while Marshall and Evansville are tied for 10th at 37-over 605.
Northern Colorado and Akron lead the rest of the field tied at 41-over 609, followed by Gardner-Webb (+47, 615), St. Thomas (+48, 616), Ohio (+49, 617), and Western Illinois (+58, 626).
