DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team sits in 12th place at the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship after shooting a 22-over 310 in the first round at the LPGA International Hills Course in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Sunday.
 
Sara Sarrion (36-38) and Luisa Gibson (40-34) each shot a two-over 74 in the opening round to finish the first 18 holes tied for 18th. Gibson is tied for seventh on the par-5 holes with a 4.75 scoring average.
 
Maika Llarena (39-40) shot a seven-over 79 and will enter the second round tied for 48th, while Isabella Spinazze (42-41) shot an 11-over 83 to finish tied for 59th. Clare Gimpel (46-40) finished the opening round tied for 63rd after her 14-over 86.
 
Both Gimpel and Llarena played well on the par-3 holes, as Gimpel is tied for first with a 2.50 scoring average and Llarena is tied for fifth with a 2.75 scoring average.
 
Texas State has the early lead on the team leaderboard, shooting a one-under 287 in the opening round. The Bobcats were the only team to finish under par in Sunday's action. ULM and Georgia Southern are tied for second just five shots back at four-over 292. Arkansas State (+7, 295) is fourth, while ODU (+7, 296) rounds out the top five teams.
 
Georgia State is only one shot back of the top-five after carding a nine-over 297. Troy and South Alabama are tied for seventh after each shot a 12-over 300. USM (+15, 303) is ninth, two strokes in front of JMU's 17-over 305.
 
Marshall (+19, 307) is just three strokes in front of CCU (+22, 310) with Appalachian State (+26, 314) four strokes behind the Chants.
 
The second round is scheduled to begin Monday, April 17, at 8:15 a.m. ET.
