GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's golf team finished the first two rounds of the Ironwood Invitational in ninth place after shooting a 27-over 603 (303-300) on the par-72, 6,266-yard course at the Ironwood Country Club in Greenville, N.C.
Sara Sarrion, the reigning Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Week, continues her strong play and sits tied for first on the individual leaderboard after firing a four-under 140 (72-68) on the opening day of competition. After shooting even-par on the opening 18 holes, the sophomore recorded five birdies and only one bogey during the second round of action.
She finished her 36 holes of play with seven birdies and only three bogeys over the first two roundsw, while carding 26 pars. Sarrion leads the event with a 3.80 scoring average on the par-4 holes, while her seven birdies are tied for fourth and her 26 pars are tied for fifth.
Luisa Gibson is tied for 31st after carding a seven-over 151 (75-76). She closed out her day with birdies on two of the final three holes. Her 4.88 scoring average on the par-4 holes is tied for 13th after the first two rounds.
Clare Gimpel is tied for 41st heading into the final round with an 11-over 155 (78-77).
Isabella Gallo is tied for 50th just two strokes back at 13-over 157 (78-79), while
Isabella Spinazze is tied for 57th going into the third round with a 15-over 159 (80-79).
James Madison was the only team to finish under par and leads the invite with a six-under 570, while host East Carolina is 10 strokes back in second place at four-over 580. College of Charleston is third with a six-over 582, while North Florida (+10, 586) and Howard (+14, 590) round out the top five.
Only three shots separate the next five teams, led by Florida Gulf Coast with a 25-over 601. Richmond and Jacksonville State are tied for seventh after scoring a 26-over 602. CCU is only one shot back with their 27-over 603 and Little Rock (+28, 604) trails CCU by one stroke. UAB finishes out the leaderboard with a (+43, 619).
