JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Highlighted by a new school record in the women's 100-meter hurdles from sophomore
Alexis Glasco, the Coastal Carolina women's track & field team had three runners in Glasco and juniors
Sydney Clemens and
Kayla Sweeney race their way to the quarterfinals of the 2023 NCAA East Regional Preliminary round in Jacksonville, Fla.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Glasco recorded the first sub-13.00 time in CCU's women's track & field history, crossing the finish line with a time of 12.97 (1.8) to place eighth overall and qualify for the quarterfinals. Her time is a CCU school record and just off the Sun Belt Conference record of 12.52 set by Sharika Nelvis of Arkansas State in 2014.
Joining Glasco in the quarterfinals of the 100-meter hurdles on Saturday is Clemens, who recorded a personal-best time of 13.26 (1.9) to finish 21st overall. Her time is the second-fastest on CCU's all-time outdoor track & field performance list.
Glasco also moved on to the quarterfinals in the 100-meter dash, as the second-year Chant turned in a time of 11.33 (1.9) to grab 23rd place overall and the final qualifying spot in the sprint event.
Just missing out on qualifying for the 100-meters quarterfinals was Sweeney, as she posted a time of 11.36 (2.6) to place 26th overall on Thursday.
However, the junior returned to the track later in the night to qualify for the quarterfinals in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.23 (3.7). Her season-best mark was 24th overall.
The preliminary round is on Saturday, May 27. Sophomore
Camryn Lorick will also compete in the high jump event on Saturday, while the 4x100-meter relay team of Clemens, Glasco,
Amanda Kinloch, and Sweeney will be in action as well.
