JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Coastal Carolina sophomore hurdler
Alexis Glasco broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2023 NCAA East Regional meet in Jacksonville, Fla., on Saturday to qualify for the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Glasco, who was a 2022 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field All-American in the 60-meter hurdles, shattered her previous school record of 12.97 (1.9) in the 100-meter hurdles event with a time of 12.67 (1.9) to place third overall in the quarterfinals and punch her ticket to the NCAA Championships.
Recording the first sub-13.00 time in CCU's women's track & field history on Thursday in the first round of the regional meet, Glasco's new school-record time is just off the Sun Belt Conference record of 12.52 set by Sharika Nelvis of Arkansas State in 2014, and ranks in the top 65 in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field record book.
Glasco also ran in the women's 100-meter dash quarterfinals, crossing the finish line 24th overall with a time of 12.20 (1.9).
Also racing for the Chants on Saturday in the quarterfinals, were juniors
Sydney Clemens and
Kayla Sweeney.
Clemens finished 17th overall in the 100-meter hurdles with her quarterfinals time of 13.30 (1.9), just four one-hundredths of a second off her first-round and personal-best time of 13.26 (1.9), while Sweeney placed 19th overall in the 200-meters with a time of 23.53 (2.8), two-tenths of a second slower than her first-round time of 23.23 (3.7) on Thursday.
CCU's women's 4x100-meter relay team of Clemens, Glasco,
Amanda Kinloch, and Sweeney recorded a time of 44.66 to finish 18th overall on Saturday.
Sophomore
Camryn Lorick, the lone field athlete to qualify for the regional meet for the Chanticleers, placed in a tie for 34th overall in the women's high jump event with her top height of 1.67 meters.
Glasco will set her sights on the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held June 8-10 in Austin, Texas.
