Volleyball Falls to Ospreys on Friday

Chanticleers wrap up Coastal Carolina Tournament on Saturday

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina volleyball team fell to the North Florida Ospreys 3-0 in Conway, S.C., on Friday evening. With the loss, the Chanticleers dropped to 2-3 overall, while UNF improved to 2-3 on the season.
 
Coastal was led by Jalyn Stout (12 kills, 10 assists) as she tallied her fourth-consecutive double-double to lead the offense, while Agata Lesiak added six kills on the night. Cagla Bengi finished with two service aces to go with her team-high 19 assists.
 
Defensively, Coastal tallied five blocks on the night with Jasmine Rivest and DiLara Unal combining for four blocks on the front line with two blocks each. Stout just missed out on a fourth-straight triple-double with eight digs to go along with the team-high 10 digs by Sydney Lewis.
 
The Ospreys were paced by Kailey McKnight with 12 put downs, while Annie Antar tallied 30 of the team's 36 assists.
 
North Florida had a match-high seven blocks with Maddie Boyd stopping three of the CCU attempts while Kierstyn McFall and McKnight each had two blocks. Defensive specialist Rocio Moro totaled 15 digs on the night.
 
In the opening set, Coastal fell behind early as the Ospreys used a pair of 3-0 bursts to take a 7-3 lead. The Chanticleers battled back to trail by two at 10-8, highlighted on kills by Rivest and Lesiak only to see the visitors from Jacksonville, Fla., use a third 3-0 surge for the 13-8 advantage.
 
CCU pulled to within three points at 18-15 on Lesiak's third spike of the set just to see North Florida take command with a 5-0 run to lead 23-15. The two teams traded the next five points with the Ospreys taking a 1-0 match lead with the 25-18 first-set win.
 
The second set began with the two squads trading the first 19 points with UNF claiming a 10-9 advantage. North Florida took command of the second set with a 15-4 to earn the 25-13 second-set win and lead 2-0 in the match.
 
In the third and final set, Coastal raced out to an 8-3 lead, sparked by a block assist by Unal and Rivest and capped off by a put down by Lauren Malone to force the first timeout by North Florida. However, the Ospreys used a 6-1 run to even the set at 9-9 only to see the two team trade the next three rallies with CCU in front 12-10.
 
North Florida pushed in front 19-15 with a 9-3 burst just to see the Chanticleers battle back to trail by two at 19-17. The Ospreys increased their advantage to five at 23-18 with a 4-1 spurt, before Coastal narrowed the margin with a 3-0 surge to trail 23-21. UNF sandwiched a Chanticleer point for the 3-0 sweep with the 25-22 third-set victory.
 
Coastal Carolina will return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 3 p.m. ET, and host the Georgia Bulldogs.
